The Cat Bug in Shell is possibly the most seen of the Illuminated marginalia seen today. Illuminated Marginalia  date back to the medieval times when very bored monks would doodle in the margins of the books they were copying and illustrating. These strange little creatures have delighted and puzzled since then and become a genre all their own.

Each of these Illuminated ornaments is hand enameled onto white glass and gone through multiple firings to build up color and transparency in the glass. Each is finished with a metal edge, and then gilded in 18k gold foil, much as the original grotesques would have been. WHile these are not exact replicas of the groteques, I did a lot of research to develop a similar style.

Cat Bug is 4  inches tall  and suitable for tree or wall.
